FFS. How about they focus on car drivers who break the law, seeing as they’re in a heavy metal box travelling at much higher speeds than a bike?

Hmm… trying not to just have a knee-jerk reaction to that but surely that would be wildly counterproductive when most would agree we need to get *more* people into bikes.

Statistics from the Department for Transport (Dft) showed that 531 people were involved in incidents with cyclists last year – 15 per cent up on 2016 and the highest since recording collisions involving bike riders was introduced in 2013. Of those involved in collisions, three were killed and 120 seriously injured.

Compare this with number of people killed on the road:

gov.uk

an estimated 1,560 reported road deaths in 2021

So deaths by driving approximately 520 times higher than those caused by cyclists. But it plays to the audience to have someone to blame, the person who makes them 10 seconds later than they expected to get to wherever they are going. FFS :-/

There aren't enough police on the roads so they will rely on the public. I agree with the speeding and jumping lights though.

I agree that cyclists should be civilised and play by the rules. But it feels like something like this disproportionately targets a small group of road users.

I reported intimidating driving the other week (I was also in the car) and the automated system told me they would not pursue it as I didn't have independent evidence, even though I had the licence number. The police (in London) don't have the resources to follow up on crimes by drivers so how is this helpful?
