Have been to the LBS today on my ride looking at bikes - have been informed I will need new wheels soon as rims are getting indents in. No doubt will be a minefield when looking - any recommendations for wheels - Scott Contessa ladies Road bike

MM: a couple of questions. Is it rim or disc brake (the current model is disc, but from your description I'm expecting rim brakes). Also, what size wheel? There may be a number of the form XXX-YY on the tyre. Wheels can go from around £100 up to several thousand. If you're after something for leisurely pootling you'll be more toward the lower end than if you racing at a high level. |

Mandy, I have a good idea of what you're looking for. Can I recommend a set of Mavic Aksium? They come in both rim and disc versions and very durable, reasonably light and you can get a pair for sensible money. I saw that Merlin Cycles had them on special offer the other day. The Ksyriums are better, but you really don't need to go to the extra expense.

Thanks - rim brakes, bikes about 7 years old but still love it. Not racing or anything just general social riding so will take a look thanks. Bikes locked away in the bike shed and am shattered from battling 14 miles uphill in headwind - will get sizes tomorrow 😴 |

Very likely to be 700c I think Mandy. Here's the link to Merlin Cycles: merlincycles.com |

NE's recommendation is good; Askium's are pretty decent and often come with the reasonable yskion tyres included. Other options are Vision Team 30, or Fulcrum Racing 6. Unless your bike is very small, it's likely you'll be after 700 wheels (XXX in the number will be 622), but you may possibly have smaller wheels if it's a small frame. |

See also Cero AR24 (which I bought last month over the other options listed)

Same bike as me Mandy, and a similar age. I replaced my wheels a few years ago with some Hunts, tubeless ready, aluminium brake track. It makes the bike faster! Not sure of model I’ll check sometime tomorrow.

Road wheel are usually the same size (diameter), 700. The Scott are standard. My Canyon has smaller 650 wheels as that’s what Canyon do with their small frames, just to be different!
