57.5 Degrees of Pain
Very late to the argument, but I never buy this 'spirit of the game' argument. The spirit of the game down the years has included huge amounts of racism, sexism and class discrimination. In fact the term 'spirit of the game' is almost a byword for class bias.

But things change (though not in all quarters, the criticism would not have been the same if the perpetrator was a white man). Like it or not running out the non striker is a legal and justifiable tactic in the modern game. Whether any one of us likes it or not.

Will pop a link to the article below. There's a twitter thread embedded in the article by Peter Della Penna - he does comment on Davies, Cross and Amy Jones and how they do stay in their crease and watch the bowler's arm for release.... mainly focusing on Dean though - he just focuses on those who batted with her rather than anyone else playing.

73 times was 85% of all balls she started at the non-striker's end.

Well, it answers the question I had when I asked it anyone had actually watched the match and if she'd been doing this all the way through her innings.....

Yes, good to have numbers. It was clear it wasn't the first time otherwise they couldn't have planned it. Also evidence that you don't HAVE to do it if any was needed.

Finally, this tweet is spot on:

Lastly, I don't consider leaving non-striker's end early as cheating, just as leaving striker's crease early or batting outside the crease entirely is not cheating. But just as a striker accepts the risks and consequences of leaving the crease early, so must the non-striker.
