Thoughts?

I would hope to run/walk, averaging around 13.5 min/mile. Been a plodder in the dim and distant past, so am hoping I wouldn't have to try out different food, gear etc. for too long before finding something that works for me, so the question is really mainly about time on feet and running.

I know it's a ridiculous idea and will hurt, but just how ridiculous - say, more than 10 on a scale from 1-10?

I guess there's only one way to find out just how silly an idea this is, Mrs S. ;) Thinking Speyside Way, so actually a little less than 40 miles - in less than 3 months. :)

If you have a decent level of settee fitness eg if you can walk say 7-8 miles you’ll be fine :-) Good luck; my second ever race was an ultra :-)

I think you should do it. I’ve never run an ultra, but I think it would be manageable, as your running at a fairly low intensity.

Good luck.

I’ll be walking The Speyside Way in a couple of weeks, but can’t make this year’s race. Gutted that it’s to be the last one. (But that’s all the more reason for you to do it)

Thanks, Derby Tup and Deinonychus! (Is that why we ask these sort of questions on Fetch, because we know Fetchies would usually encourage our mad ideas? ;))

"Settee fitness", what a brilliant term!

I've run a handful or so ultras, but not the Speyside Way. Mr SA has done it for the past 9 years though, so would be nice to join him for the last one.

Enjoy walking it, Deinonychus! Where are you starting?

Starting at Newtonmore, and doing the Badenoch way, before joining the Speyside Way proper. Hopefully the weather is good.

What a nice surprise for a Sunday morning!

I'd say go for it, as long as you are confident in your footwear and other kit. Can you walk that fast?
