I think we are on the verge of "take it on the chin" time, but not just yet. This ain't over by a long chalk...

Too Much Water
I’d expect Devon and Cornwall to see an impact but to thousands of police coming from around the country for G7, and staying in hotels and a Cruise Ship for a week

Phleecy - note the clever use of wording - those figures of 96% and 92% are for preventing hospitalisation. The figures for preventing infection (and therefore minimising risk of longcovid) are somewhat worse : Pfizer 79% for Delta, down from 92% for Alpha And worryingly given the widespread use AZ 60% down from 73% |

Double jabbed AZ 60% effective against symptomatic infection from Delta variant. But asymptomatic infection can also have long term health complications, and you might become a vector for infecting others. Mortality rates are still much improved after controlling for age though. |

Digging around on tinternet... bbc.co.uk Although I dare say if we had taken back control of our border as promised and kept the Delta variant out, we wouldn't be in such a pickle - it says as much in the paper below. assets.publishing.service.gov.uk It does appear that the modellers are still not "certain" what would happen if the scheduled relaxation took place but the implications on the downside could be very high. It appears like we would go back to about 300 deaths a day at peak and about 2000 hospital admissions a day. I assume they will want to see some more clear evidence of the relationship between vaxx rates and their effect on admissions with the Delta variant before giving a green flag - whatever that is. |

Managed to move my second jab forward by 2 weeks, me being an under 40 Pfizer person. I assume that the over 40s being brought forward as per announcement today has created an appointment vacuum.

Good news Roberto and TMW. The south west may be feeling the effect of the influx of tourists too? K5 - I think a lot of people miss that point. Death isn't the only or for some worse possible consequence of CV19. |
