But if we have herd immunity here we'll be OK with "imported" cases - much as we are with other diseases where our childhood vaccination program gives the population herd immunity, even if other countries aren't there yet. We do need to get used a future where this is part of our life - like measles - but managed through interventions such as vaccination. |

I saw that and wondered if it is just truly voluntary or is there an incentive for participants. I couldnt see anything but there was an odd note that suggested by participating you were no longer eligible for government vaccines. I assume that meant for the government 2nd vaccine and you would still be OK if there was a booster in the autumn/winter ?

I doubt there's any incentive beyond reimbursement of travel expenses. And I can't see how it would affect your eligibility for a booster later in the year.

Not sure bazo - the study says it runs for 21 months, so I guess they'll want a fairly long time trial and not too disrupted by other jabs? But I'm afraid the study details (76 page pdf) was too long to keep my attention after I saw I wasn't in the right geographic area. |

It may be that the booster will be given as part of the trial - as in the Novavax trial, I elected not to have either of the (then) available vaccines but to stay in the trial and have the Novavax vaccine.

Non-runner
On the issue of not all care home residents being vaccinated: some are apparently just too frail. There was a study in Norway bmj.com and Australia operates a decision tree based on risk of death from side effects versus risk from Covid, given associated protections. That may well be the case here too, for these very small numbers. |
