A great stat I heard from Scottish gov't briefing today (I suspect it's same for England, or better as vaccination rollout is even further progressed) is that all the groups 100% vaccinated now counted for 99.9% of the deaths that have happened during the pandemic (in UK?) to date. That doesn't mean that no one dies from here, but it certainly means it won't be 150,000 deaths going forward (barring significant virus resistant mutations or other changes). G

HG, Isn't it that top 9 cohorts (whom account for c. 99% fatalities) have now had 1st vaccines!? A few days ahead of UK government target. |

- been offered their first jab. Unfortunately, there is still a significant (?) percentage of vulnerable people not (yet) taking the vaccine

From what I heard the take-up has been really good in the most highly vulnerable groups. A lot of anti-vaccination bluster melts away in the face of a real threat. |

There was a number posted somewhere this morning, but I'm blowed if I can find it. take up in the elderly in care homes isn't 100% - which would be Ok if it was in carers, but their numbers were lower than one would hope. Gooing to see if I can revive my Google-fu and see what I was reading this morning... |

Herd immunity will kick in at around 80-85% for this virus. If we get to that point we'll be in a good place (as long as variants don't skew things).

The issue will be that it’s not a uniform 85% around the whole of the UK; different parts of country / demographics will have lower rates - Totnes? Then of course extrapolate that across the rest of the world |

Indeed TMW, if there are pockets of unvaccinated people we'll get outbreaks like we do with measles.

1.3 million not taken up the offer, so only about 5% of the 1-9 priority groups. This isn't what I read this morning, it doesn't have as much info - but it's all I could find news.sky.com |
