Age, cost and he did say the only reason he went back was to keep collecting his medals. No medal, no Comrades. He said this tongue in cheek but I believe there is an element of truth behind it.

That's a real shame, but I guess with his ability he can collect medals and trophies much closer to home

I must admit I had Brian pitched to be on the bus by Polly Shortts, so kudos for him for managing what looks like (on the splits) a perfectly judged run, right at the limit of what he was capable of.

Shame Steve won't be back, he was so taken by the race over the last couple of years, but it is an incredibly expensive route to running a road ultra if you are funding it yourself rather than through sponsorship / kit sponsor etc.

We were taken aback by the surface in the last 50m or so. Carpet laid on grass it looked like running on memory foam. More an obstacle course.
