I could have sworn that the line was 'close bosom friend of the retiring sun'. Thanks for reminding me of the right words.

My O'level English teacher used to say that poetry was the right words in the right order, too!

Still got tomatoes growing outside here, but the hawthorn and silver birch trees already dropping leaves, the swallows and swifts have left, and the birds have left only two of the rowan trees with berries on.

Tomatoes, peppers, raspberries. I think the swifts have gone, but they might have been blown away.

Sweet peas all over, but I was a bit remiss regarding dead heading. Tomatoes have gone from none to all ripening with a few fir green onion chutney. The rest is looking ragged after days of heavy rain and now very windy.

The Swifts, sensibly, left ages ago, quite a few Swallows sitting on the telegraph lines waiting for that signal to go.

Lancashire playing at home, day 2, no play as yet.

Ocelot Spleens I did chuckle at the Lankysire v Notts (no) score as I lay on my sunbed reading Bumble's book and contemplating a Mythos for lunch

About This Thread

Maintained by GregP

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells.
