I've got an inov-8 hydration reservoir for fitting in the bottom of my inov-8 race pro pack (other brands are available). There were no instructions with it in terms of cleaning/sterilising it - can anyone give me any hints/tips on what it needs? I assume the same sort of powder one uses to sterilise baby milk bottles?

thanks.

You don't need to sterilise the reservoir, it is treated with something anti-microbial. Mould does build up in the tube though... I take it off and soak it in baby bottle sterilising fluid, then push a small wad of tissue paper through it with a wire coathanger to get the stubborn mould out...

I think you can get a cleaning kit with a long wire brush. But I reckon a soak in Milton or dilute bleach very now and then is good. And empty it out when finished.

Fill the whole system with it. Anti bacterial coatings dont do that much for mould, and I have grown some interesting specimens in mine.

+1 for the freezer tip. Mine lives in there now unless it's being used (understanding wife).

Oh, I like the idea of the freezer! Dark and cold, nothing will grow :)

I have just used mine for a long and hard bike race and filled the reservoir with energy drink. That is when problems usually arise...

My Inov8 bladder is old though and has never grown anything, apart from some mould in the tube...

There is a kit you can get from "Ronnie Sunshines" on ebay and other similar army/outdoor places with long brushes to get in the corners. I use detergent and the occasional blast with a Steradent tablet, but like Meglet's Milton idea - sounds a bit safer.
