I CAN get there by public transport on the morning of the race on Saturday. What would be the best thing to do for the Saturday night? Manchester? Wigan? Somewhere else?

I think the £19 a year is just for the mailing list and to book travel and stuff through them. I did try to check out a £5 race and it wouldn't let me.
