Charity event rather than a running one?

The charity fundraising element of the London Marathon is one of the things that makes it such a great event, but I also find it distasteful that they try and force it down our throats at the same time.

BBC coverage of it doesn't help with ignoramuses such as Steve Cram and Brendon Foster giving the casual viewer the impression that there are two types of runner. The elite and then the charity runner so it gives the race the unfair impression of it being a big charity event when it is so much more than that.

On two consecutive Sundays I ran two marathons. Lochaber, where two sheep and a telegraph pole are all the crowd support you're going to get and London, where , well, you know...

I loved both of them. It doesn't need to be "either/or"
