I can't help wondering if a 9% descent with two 90 degree bends, 600m into a marathon is that sound an idea.

I must admit I was a bit surprised to find that the drop from the High St to the galleries is over 30m and then about 65m down to the Forth. Obviously Edinburgh goes up and down a bit, but I'd not considered just how much before.

The old (Mass) start on Regent Road was also just outside the legal limit. The fast start on London Road was just inside it, hence GFA times achieved from London Road were valid

I've mapped out an alternative Edinburgh marathon route with scant concern for practicalities but with an eye to including some climbs. And it goes round the castle.

From the new start at Potterow to a Holyrood Park finish: 468m climb, 517m descent.

Has the HM changed also ? The old route was a good fast flat one and if these changes are in, it will not be as good a route and might put me off entering :-(

The half - marathon is just the first half of the full marathon, is it not, therefore will have changed

The start of the full has changed so presumably so has the start of the half..
