Reading Paul Hobroughs book the runner’s expert guide to stretching in the section on calf raises he mentions a young Steve Cram would do 500 calf raises everyday

Decided to start doing them daily went for the beginners sets from the book 3 sets of 15 each leg. Be doing the 3 sets left leg then 3 right leg. 90 a day and I know I have done them.
Just like the press-up thread anyone else wanting to give it a go

I should do this, i have had sore achilles tendons the whole year, maybe this would remedy that.
its sooo boring though, and i´m not sure a can muster up the will power to do pressups, pullups run and calf raises every day..

Humm lets see :)

I do the odd set in my core/strength sessions, 500 though....I manage 4x15,albeit more would be good. Still doing the mountain climbers and star jumps from fetchmas though.

No way I could do 500 a day but no way I could be a world record holder either 😁
I do mine at the end of whatever strength session I am doing so it’s only an extra few minutes on top.

All properly performed strength training is good in moderation but given Cram's subsequent history of calf injuries (pretty much every season from 1984 was disrupted by calf/achilles problems - it's interesting how many newspaper articles on the subject a simple search produces ) I'm not sure that he is the best recommendation for excessive levels....

Not saying to do 500 a day that is excessive. More like the sort of numbers I am doing as a form of strength training

I would think 500 is way beyond capability of the vast majority of people

I find calf raises beneficial when recovering from strained calf muscles and occasional Achilles tendinitis flare ups
