I've thought this for a while, but possibly haven't posted it...

Anyone who doubts the impotance of correct saddle height should use a Brompton for a few weeks. The difference when you get the height just right is huge - and it is always with the saddle higher than one would think reasonable - at least in my case.

Yes compared to a "normal" bike, the seatpost does look too long but I agree on the importance of correct height.
When I first joined a club I took so much stick about the height and my general bike position that at the coffee stop our sponsor and LBS owner spent a good half an hour resetting my position on the bike.
Neither of us mentioned to the others that it was he that had "fitted" me first time around but as everyone knew that I had bought the bike from him I expect everyone guessed and he then had felt duty bound to put me right

Does look nice but hard to justify the paying £80 nicker for it.

Well yes. I'm glad I went for black, as it goes, because (with the exception of the red) I like all the other colours so would never be satisfied.

It's like an ordinary acrobat/bendy person next to a Cirque du Soleil bendy person-if that's not too strange an analogy.
