I heart Bristol. Where I spent my undergraduate years. Haven’t visited for some years now. Would love to go back for another visit.

As a Bristolian who moved away in 1975, I’ve never had the opportunity to explore the river and floating docks area much, so this would be a great way to see so much of what I’ve missed.

I remember thinking Brizzle was fairly shit when I lived there as a kid (from 1985 to 1992), but these days it's lovely, and it would be great to have an excuse to go see friends and family in the area.

There is a book (going back to SteveCNordrunner's post on p1) here: bristolbooks.org but on that page there are also links to maps etc on pdfs.

About This Thread

For discussion of the Bristol Bridges Walk. As at 2021, the full route visits 45 bridges in a distance of 45km. There is a reference page maintained by Bristol Civic Society (see link below) and there is also a handbook which can be purchased through that page or on Amazon: Jeff Lucas's "From Brycgstowe to Bristol in 45 Bridges" published by Bristol Books.

The route includes a large loop of around 20km down the River Avon to take in the M5 motorway bridge at Avonmouth and one other, so it should be possible to devise a route which excludes these and offers 43 bridges within around 25km. Sounds like an idea for a run ...
