I deferred my 2020 to 2021 and haven’t had any communication, which would make sense as they probably don’t want to spread this nonsense idea further than needed :)

It sounds as if they are sending more details next week. I may have to contact them direct if I still don't get an e-mail (I am definitely subscribed).

Grounded Events admit that they missed me off the recent e-mail regarding The Edit. If you are in a similar position and feel you have missed any e-mails, the link is below.

As we already know, another e-mail is being sent this week asking for competitors' decisions with regards to the proposed event on 11 October.

Email through today for the options.
Do The Edit or a full virtual marathon, and you can have a place for 2021 for £40.

Or do neither, and transfer for free to 2021 or 2022.
IOW, either The Edit or the virtual race effectively costs £40.

I think I'm probably going to defer to 2022 tbh. I think the balance of probabilities of me still being marathon capable and big events being possible looks better for '22 than '21.

Hove Lawns to Power Station and back, certainly showing Brighton at its best, but at least it should be relatively easy to control spectators and spacing

Still no e-mail for me but not an issue as I can have a look on the web site and Race Roster. I'll have to have a think about what I'll do in the next week.

Minimal spectators around the power station but I would be concerned about the stretch along the prom up to the finish. A few pinch points and encroaching spectators on marathon day so I presume that they will make this area spectator-free for The Edit.

I probably will do The Edit. I just need to decide how to do the 20 miles between 30 September and 11 October. My long runs have slacked off so a one-off 20 mile run might not be sensible. I would do two 10 milers but my own family and working arrangements might make that awkward during that slot. Four 5-mile runs plus the 10k seems a bit of a farce in order to get a marathon medal but it may be the best option for me this year.

Despite me being signed up for 2021 rather than 2020, I have an email which appears to offer me the Edit. Hmmm. I don't *think* I want to do it, but I'm not 100% sure.

OK, decision made. I am going to do The Edit with four 5-mile runs beforehand.

As a BM Member, I've also decided to extend my membership by one year instead of getting a refund. That means I'll be running the Brighton Marathon until I'm 60.

Has everyone else made up their mind? Don't forget that the cut-off is 10.00 pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

About This Thread

Maintained by Surrey Phil
The eleventh Brighton Marathon has been cancelled and is being replaced by The Edit on Sunday 11 October. Either run a virtual marathon between 30 September and 11 October or run 20 miles during the same period and complete the final 6.2 miles along the seafront.
