I can glow in the winners light, maybe.......as thats whats the barmaid in The Globe thought when she saw me with my medal last year.

So if your the first there Mrs W, be prepared to make the most of it :)

Was merely pointing out that there are a few people on here who win races G. Doesn't mean that any of them are necessarily any better than others.

and covers distances much shorter than marathon as well.

Infact you have me thinking and I can probably name people on Fetch who have won things from about 100 metres

I have often had conversation with other half about my distinct lackof sporting ability and how much of it is physiological and how much of it is a predisposition to ease off when it becomes hard work/uncomfortable. In sum, I will never be fast, never win a race unless there aresome very odd rules, I take my hat off to ALL the runners (on here and in the big wide world), each has their own story, their own motivations, their own bit of sparkle. I was being a bit glib when I made my comments specific to a marathon winner, but it's probably because I can only dream of running ever being that fluid/natural a thing for me. It would be a HUMUNGOUS thing for me at any distance. I do acknowledge though that even marathon winners can sometimes have bad breath or a spotty bum!

;-)

I counted my box of medals the other day in terms of miles raced and have raced about 500 miles, not bad for a pigeon toed duffer

And ultras too!

Mulbs, I remember when I started out and a few people told me I'd never be any good and that I'd wind up with loads of injuries because of my totally flat feet. I'll never be up the sharp end of a race but it's still possible to run lots of miles :-)

I won a race last year, there were 8 people in it. It was over 19 miles and I won by 15 minutes, am I an elite?

What group is rach E pacing?

I have learnt to ignore state of toenails but lost my first in a pub garden last summer showing a fellow runner how it was hanging on by will power alone, was prouder than being at the birth of my first child. ;-)

TT - Nice one, Rach is doing 4 hours

Mulbs - you can be as good as you want to be, just a matter of time and dedication at a level that works for you.

Naomi - my first comment covered longer but in all honesty the further you run the easier it gets to win races, especially some of the more diverse events.
