I am in a quandry, whether to go all out at 4 hour pace and try stick with it or go slower for the first half and try and go faster in the second.

I think I will stick to my usual plan of heading out fast'ish and trying to maintain that pace throughout. I would rather "build up" time over the first half or so of a mara and then slow down a little when I get tired in the second half.

People that can do negative splits amaze me. I can barely put one foot in front of the other after mile 24, let alone run at a pace faster than when I started!

I don't know what to do re: pacing. I'm aiming for 8.30mm so I think I'll just print out a pace band and see how it goes. Not very scientific really :-)

I see the weather topic has been started.... if it is blowing a gale in my face all the way along the seafront.... it could be a VERY long day :-O

I'm thinking getting my pacing right might be a bit hit and miss over the first 13 miles or so because the course is a bit "lumpy".

I'm hoping to come in around 3.45ish so 8.30 - 8.40 is what I'm aiming for.

I ran the Bramley 20 with a couple of other guys and girls I met on the day at 8.30mm and finished very strong over the last 3 miles so hopefully I'll bump into some other peeps looking for the same pace and repeat my good performance at Bramley. Running evenly in a small group, chatting our way round the 20 miles certainly made the run seem alot "easier".

Maybe I'll bump ito you Mrs W and we can form an unofficial 8.30 pace group :-)

Mrs W I thought you were going for a sub 4, surely that's more 9 minute miles than 8.30's???

The 'lumps' in the first half of the coures are hardly noticeable. There is a gentle downhill back past the Marina that takes you to halfway and a load of cheering people.... watch your speed here! I did my fastest split at the halfway point and it took a bit of time to recover.... by then I was knackered!

Poots, 'tis called endurance ;-)

I'll be running 8:30s for 6 miles then 8:20s for 7, with the second half at 8:00s. Should work out at a 5 - 6 min negative split. If anyone else has this rather unusual pacing strategy then company is welcome. You may not get much chat mind you, I like running with people in companionable silence.

that strategy sounds a bit too aggressive for me

I too like companiable silence. Talking makes me lose my concentration a bit too much I think, and my pace slips.

Poots - I want 3.45 really, so I might as well go for it. If I can't do it, I should still get my sub 4. In theory I should be able to get 3.45, but who knows what will happen on race day!

Leg iron, hope to see you for some easy 8.30 miles :-)
