I like the app, it has confirmed I am on the entry list and have a number! :-)

Red start for me and aiming for 3:35 with a big negative split. Going to feel like I'm going backwards setting off at 8:30s in the red pen.

Have to say, people moving into a pen higher up than they're assigned to can cause irritation. A certain number of runners are assigned to each pen and if they fill up before those who are meant to be in there get in, then it's not really fair. It's also entirely within the Race Director's rights to assign you on the basis of your last race and it works both ways (I've been stuck a lot further forward based on my PB when I wanted to run 35 minutes slower).

Brighton didn't suffer from congestion last year and you'll have no problems moving through the field, as someone mentioned a few pages back. And it's chip timed, not gun timed (apart from the winners) so you don't need to worry about that.

I got my pack on Saturday, 3443 and yellow start. I can't remember what finish time I put down but as I am doing the double I'm really not bothered!! My last loooong run was a struggle, but 22 miles done :-) I'm having a two-week taper so one more 20-miler to do next weekend and then I can relax. It doesn't sound like Brighton will be as congested as London, just get to the front of the starting pen :-)

Ahhh but of you are *right* at the back it means you have to run a lot further, Naomi ;-)

Last year, at London, once they put the pen tapes down and walked you to the start it was very easy to move forwards and promote yourself by a few groups if you wanted to. I imagine Brighton will be similar, and that will alleviate the pens filling up with people that shouldn't be in too early.

Just looking online at last years runners, and it seems there were 12000 places yet only just under 7,500 finished. That sounds like a huge drop out rate, does it not?

You get a lot of no-shows in big marathons, sometimes up to 20%. Especially in an event like London where people think "it can't be that hard", get a place and do no training. You also get more people dropping out in big marathons because the proportion of less experienced runners is higher.

I will be one of them no-show dropout losers this year, I think. Gonna defer: Reading yesterday was fantastic but showed me I haven't been able to do the training I need to get through Brighton with a smile, or indeed perhaps at all. Going to rest and recover, and when this bliddy achilles has finally forgiven me start the training for Abingdon. Good luck to all doing Brighton this year and hopefully see you there next.

Just had this e-mail from the lovely Brighton people...

Dear Pootle

You are in the correct corral. Pink is approximately 3.30-4.30 hours.

Hmm, I think the last finisher at Brighton last year might have thought that N. A shade under 9 hours, and she was only a FS. Even all the really old people came in before she did!

Ooh, I like the wideness of the pink corral. I was thinking I was going to have to change. Now I might just mosey and have fun...

Stop stressing about which start you are in peeps. The course is the same for all and it is easy to get past people if you need to. So come on get your head in the right place and think positive. This mrathon is MUCH shorter than London so it's a piece of p1ss :-)

Let's hope the idiot who parked on the course last year and held us up for 30 mins gets it right this year!
