Yes, I'm an ever present in Brighton too. Can't fully understand why there's such a high drop-out rate (from memory about a third don't get to the start line). It does ask the question as to how congested it might be if nearly all entrants made it to the start line as there are a few pinch points en route.
I think the cheapest entry is by getting an early bird discount at the Expo. If someone else is goint to the Expo to pick up your kit bag, number, etc on your behalf, they can register you for the following year - my brother did it for me this year.

I was one of the high drop out rate last year, Phil. Really looking forward to the race right up until my back went PING and I couldn't run for a few weeks. Decided that discretion was the better part of valour and gave it the swerve, deferring to this year.
I'm definitely going for it this time, though. It's written. It's decided.

Bugger. Just remembered that the relative who offered to put me up has gone and get pregnant. I'm not sure that staying in the same house as a 6 week old baby would be ideal so I've sorted myself out a hotel. Guess that means I'm committed (had been considering binning it at one stage).

Dammit - can't do this one now - got a business trip to Rio (I can think of worse excuses).
Can't defer without paying for next year, can't get a refund, can't transfer my place (there's over 190 days to go!). NOT impressed!
