Hi everybody, New to this site and all. Been a keen runner for oh many years and suddenly three years agao finally found the determination to try and do my best in every training session and race. Better late than never! I am now 33 and got a pb of 2m08 last year for the 800m, so the race is on so to speak to break the magic 2mins! |

Welcome to Fetch piran There was a thread on this very topic http://www.fetcheveryone.com/forum__35019__sub_2_minute_800m_new_group - though not much activity recently by the look of it. Hope you achieve your goal! |

Thanks for the messages so far. Going for an endurance weekend. Saturday I plan to do a 4mile run. Sunday 3x2 miles each preceded with a 100m run up an 8% gradient.

Hi Piran. Do you know your 400m and 1500m times from when you ran 2:08? Do you see yourself as more of a sprinter or distance runner?

Hi Jej. I only raced one 400 last year and that an hour after the 800, in 61s. The 1500m I haven't raced in many a year, but I'm regularly doing 5.10s-20s for the mile around my home, so I know I can do something under 5mins. I must get an actual time this year! I see myself more as a pure 800 runner, and neither a sprinter type or distance if that makes sense? But if pushed I would err more towards sprinter..

Probably stating the obvious, but you'll most likely need 56s 400m speed to break 2. One session per week running 10 x 200m intervals @ 28s with full (3min?) recover

*recovery would be a priority in your shoes. What does your average week look like? |

I will definately be concentrating more on those speed endurance kind of sessions come beginning of March. The last two weeks have been : Mon- rest Tues- 9 laps of sprint 150m, jog 50m Weds- core exercises Thurs- 1 set of 200, 300, 200, 300 (30s recovery between each run) 2mins rest, followed by 300, 200, 300, 200, 2 mins rest follwed by a 300 and a 200. Fri- core exercises Sat- 4 mile run Sun 4x 1 mile runs. Jog back between each and precede each with a 100m sprint up hill and 3 clean and jerks of 50kg Mon- rest Tues- 3 sets of run 600 rest 30s sprint 200. with lap jog between each set. Weds- core Thurs- 3x 800m Fri- core Sat- 2x 1.7mile runs with 2mins rest between Sun- 2x 400m and 2x 800m runs down roughly 10% hill |
