The last six miles are the easiest section from a running point of view.
I divide the course mentally into four ...
Start - 7.5 miles. Undulating, lots of wild garlic, through Hawkshead, biggest hill at the end of it. 7.5 miles - 12.5 miles. My absolute favourite. Shady, foresty sections. Mostly downhill, but with some little upswings to keep it interesting. Finishes at Newby Bridge. 12.5-19 miles - A drag up, then a switchback, then a long descent. Trafficky and the least pretty part of the course apart from the amazing view over the lake as you come over a hill just before 18 miles. 19 miles - the end - The flattest section. Bowness. Troutbeck Bridge. Ambleside. Very easy running ... until the last 0.15 of a mile, which contains the hardest hill of all

V, nice course summary. That second part is my favourite bit too.
However the you seem to have forgotten the hill at 21 miles, which I always think is harder than 16-18. (just in case anyone new to the course pushes too hard, too soon)

The 21-mile hill is only 0.1 mile long and although it's steep, it's all downhill from there.
No shame in walking it

There's a hill like that in the same place in the Dartmoor Vale marathon. My sister (supporting) couldn't believe everyone was walking it, but I pointed out she had no idea what hills we'd just run!
