i am toying with the idea of runnig this one. Never done a marathon before. Just a quick query........is it very expensive to stay around there in the hotels and B and B's? I have myself, a wife and 3 step-daughters to put up for the weekend, maybe longer. A little concerned about the pocket, thats all

GCWENN, you can stay at Brathay Hall itself and it's not too expensive
I'd avoid Ambleside, but you should be able to find a B&B in Windermere for less than £30pppn, or there are lots of youth hostels within easy reach.
Last year we stayed at the Newby Bridge Hotel for a ridiculously cheap rate. I think they may have charged us £54 for the room rather than £54 per person (I'd booked a posh room), but the person who checked us out insisted that the bill was correct
See you there!

Brathay Lodge was nice and cheap for me, but the floor was a little bit too hard for my liking, and the snoring, don't even start on that:P
I think I'll be using a Youth Hostel or a very cheap B&B next year for Saturday and Sunday.
