I thought i'd do it as a birthday treat, as it would be a shame to waste all this base training ;) I might also stand a chance of beating eL Bee ;)

How many weeks until you hit the Gobi? If I were to give any advice, it would be train with a full back pack A LOT!! But it seems you are doing that, so you'll breeze it ;)

Not long now then!! It was definitely the pack weight that knackered me for the first 2 days. I hadn't allowed for 3L of water being rationed, so on Day 1 my starting pack weight was 12kg instead of 10.5kg, and i'd only ever trained with 7.5kg.

yes I am going to train with up to 10/11kg, above 8/9 it really makes a difference!

I don't know if water is rationed for us .... need to find out!

There was a bloke running the Compton 40 on Saturday with a 13kg paraglider on his back. I didn't ask him how much water he was carrying, it might not have gone down so well. It was a ginormous rucksack too, hope your's are a bit smaller :-)

Isn't 'running' with a paraglider cheating?

He said it was very tempting to jump on it whenever we got to the top of a hill! He was training for some event in the Alps where you have to run or paraglide as far as possible in a certain amount of time. I'd be at home reading theory books ;-)
