I'm going for Windermere as my first ever marathon. I love the lakes and thought I may aswell have great scenery for 26 miles. Any tips about training, the race itself or anything that will help a first time marathoner?

Hi Paul! Welcome:-) And hello Rentboy:-)
Paul - run hills. Lots of them. I think that pretty much covers it from a training viewpoint;-)
btw - I know El Bee has posted an elevation profile for the mara, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the total ascent/descent actually is. Was just wanting to compare it to my 16 miler from Saturday to see whether I'm roughly on the right sort of terrain, or whether I need bigger hills!

The Rentboy, Paul Jackson, welcome to Fetch
DaveA will no doubt pop along to tell you what a perfect first marathon the Brathay Windermere Marathon is, and how it's an ideal PB course.
Foxy Davy, you'll find out soon enough Actually, it's not a ferocious course at all. There's nothing on the scale of the hills at Langdale and Snowdonia.

eL Bee!
Treacle - i vaguely remember measuring the TOTAL ascent as 660m - but I may be making that up.
I'll see if I can dig out the info
