Yes - it is a better distance for younger kids.

The idea would be to start at just past the lap turn at say 9:20 by which time all 5kers would have already passed this point. 1-lapers would appear in the results with times + 20mins.

On another topic.

I've just heard from my mate the park keeper that Mr or Mrs Angry has written in to complain that "over 150 runners were trampling round the park kicking dogs and pushing little kids out of the way etc."

I find this hard to believe. I was at the front and made a point of saying friendly hellos and excuse mes to the few people out on the course despite the pace. And we got no complaints on the day.

Fortunately we have the video and hundreds of photos that show other park users smiling and enjoying.

But if anyone saw anything at all then please can they let me know.

I've never seen anyone be aggressive and all of the dog walkers have been very supportive. It makes me really angry as it's such a friendly event which encourages people of all abilties to get involved. No wonder we have an obesity crisis and do cr*p on the world stage if this is the encouragement sport gets!! Perhaps they should walk their dog at 8am or 10am and then they won't be inconvenienced.

Bob, I did get a complaint from a woman when I was marshalling 2 weeks ago. She was moaning that her usual route was being disrupted and what a stupid time to run. Apparently 7am would be better for her.........she didn't seem overly impressed that other dog walkers etc didn't agree with her. It may be her as she did use the phrase 'trampling around her park' a lot ! Strange thing was her dog was very friendly and loved the attention. Some of you may recall it. Big fluffy thing with a red rubber ring that tried to get everyone to play tug with it....including runners. I'd be very suprised if this wasn't our 'angry resident'. Didn;'t see anyone being rude or anything but friendly with her then or last week.

when I was marshalling 2 weeks ago (at cafe) I spoke to a number of dog walkers and I was actually struck by how friendly and supportive they were. I was impressed by this having had a few issues over the years with dog walkers when out on runs along the Mersey in South Machester.

Thanks. Well said KJO.

I have had the same generally positive discussions with dog walkers - I know that most have adapted their routine. A few complained but the park keeper told them that it was only half an hour and that seemed to be that.

Hopefully council will value "exercising 100+ people" above "exercising 1 dog".

I need to keep on top of this as the park are already saying "what if we limited it to 100 runners?" which would be a shame and a nightmare to manage.

Probably a good time to write to the park / council / councillor to tell them what a good thing BRTT is.

RB I think you meant to say ....

"Probably a good time to write to the park / council / councillor to tell them what a good thing BRTT is and to complain about the dog walkers" ;-) "

The times I have been involved,run/photo/collecting bits I've not seen any adverse reaction. I did have an altercation with a dog + owner in the park over a year ago which was when I was running on my own. A full grown labrador snarling and leaping up at shoulder height caused me to advise the owner to keep it under control, this was shortly after my other half was bitten by a "harmless alsation" (harmless in the words of the owner).

The secret in dealing with people like this is to keep calm, stick to facts and above all remain polite. If they do complain then a factual response should help. Let them be the ones to lose control and look daft. Perhaps this Saturday we get a few shots of the friendly dog owners chatting to marshalls and put them on the website.

At the end of the day the park is there for all of us and BRTT takes 25 minutes in a week, not much to ask really .
