Lol Roo. We're both a bit scrawny though (even if beardless) - do you think we'd still be allowed?

I think we'll be alright Jenny. It was 'scrawny men' / 'women with beards' that aren't allowed. I read that as scrawny women being ok to go. I'll just have to shave though.

They let me keep my beard for forest orienteering. :P

To avoid any doubts at all, no scrawny men with beards and no scrawny women with beards (but I think it would be a bit far for anyone from the Lake District or Cornwall so we should be OK).

Roo, are you off to Burnham this Sunday, W21L should keep you occupied? My course is the longest ever, and I've gone up an age class.

Jenny, re Chorlton, the bit over the river could be used to avoid multi laps and there are fewer dogs on that side. It would be nice to have the finish at the top of the bank heading back towards the car park?? Or am I just cruel.

TBB; There's a whole series coming up in Lyme Park, and we are having some chasing start races which are proving popular with runners. (Easier navigation and great potential to follow in the chasing part of the race). Next one is Chorlton Water Park 14th March.

Chasing start - Generally it is used in a two race format, though it can be expanded to more. In the first race, often called the prologue, you start as per standard orienteering events - i.e. one, or more, minutes apart. In the second race, the chase, the leader from the prologue starts first and everyone else starts however many seconds they were behind the leader in the prologue. The winner is then the first person to finish. With the navigation element of orienteering thrown in it often produces fantastic head to head racing.

(And, as it happens, I am going to such an event on Saturday.)
