I wouldn't actually know what was / wasn't the BG trod anyway. When I did the race (well I did TWA rather than Anni Waltz) for some reason they decided not to send us all the way to the top of Robinson and the checkpoint was somewhere close to the top. It made it interesting because you didn't know what you were aiming for and couldn't see the dibber until you were pretty close.

Given that there are at least three different routes off Robinson that I've used at various times in my BG history, and all of those have variations, that instruction could mean a whole gamut of different things to different people. Without clarification it's a pretty meaningless and unenforceable 'rule'.

Is that off Robinson, towards Hindscarth, anti-clockwise? Not sure I know which trod they mean.

Spot on. I’m not sure I’ve ever been down the same way twice flyingfinn wrote:

Confussingly the line the Newlands Memorial race map takes off Robinson is the same as the Bob Graham route logged in the FKT site. I know people may take different routes but on the face of it if you hadn't been there and just referred to maps they're effectively saying don't follow the race map!

Not knowing anything about either... if this is the route then surely taking what I assume is the BG trod (the more eastern, lower line on here mapped using the arial view and a vague memory of slogging up it) doesn't properly go to CP1? |

I can’t fully work it out but looking at my GPS trace from the route, the CP at Robinson looks vaguely where ours (a shared CP on both races) was. I can’t remember exactly why they wanted us to avoid Robinson peak - they only told us on the start line - but I wonder if it was the same reason. It was only 2 years ago so may make sense if they’re wanting to protect from erosion.

Unless they update an "official" race map at registration with an out of bounds area I don't see how they can even think about enforcing something that is so subjective. And even if they do, as 99% of those taking part won't look at their map, never mind mark it up or be able to relate it to what's under their feet, this seems just asking for lots of argument, hassle and general ill feeling. |

If the front runner goes the BG route they might have to disqualify most of the field ![]() |

I know this is the old official map but the one on sale at present shows the same route just with the name change. So as above anyone with a map in hand would be led along the line they appear to be trying to avoid? |
