Maybe. Seems a bit odd though unless he has an immediate problem. He seemed to be going OK, though he did seem to mess around a bit by Three Tarns before dropping onto the Band. According to all the weather stuff there shouldn't be lying snow below about 400m so they should be able to get the van to Cockley Beck OK and the road through Seathwaite would be Ok in the van. He wasn't really that far being able to drop down to there off Cold Pike, as we discussed earlier. Dropping to Langdale means he has a 500m climb tomorrow just to get back on route.

Are we assuming the van is going to be at Steel End? It’s tracker hasn’t updated in hours.
Weather must be pretty atrocious to drop down with (relatively) not too much left to Hardknott and seemingly moving well.

If the van had headed to Stool End the most sensible way would have brought it up through Coniston and on that route the tracker would have registered in a number of places (they roam across all networks so only don't connect in the deadest of dead spots and there is certainly a Vodafone signal in and around Coniston). Even if they'd moved it up through Cockley Beck and over Wrynose and then past Blea Tarn there is a signal above Blea Tarn where it would have been likely to have registered. My guess is that the van is in the Duddon Valley/Cockley Beck area which means that they won't be able to see the tracker.... But if I was him I would have additional support to cover such an eventuality and hopefully there will at least be someone with a car and dry kit in a position to get to him asap. He's only from Ulverston, so from the point at which he headed down a text sent to someone on stand-by at home would enable them to not be far behind him in reaching the ODG.

Rob Jebb: If anyone get in touch with Dom’s Dad we have come off Bowfell and are in langdale at pub. Send camprvan😰😄
Looks like he has had some good company for at least part of today. May explain the pick up in pace after Lingmell. He certainly headed up Winn Rigg alone (another fb post) but Rob must have joined him later. I'm guessing somewhere after Scafell.

Good to know he’s got someone experienced along, as you say, probably helped set a better pace today.
I guess that’s it for today, back at it in the morning.

Seen it suggested elsewhere that if he continues tomorrow his best option is to go up PoB, then to Cold Pike and then to Long Top before heading to Hard Knott via Adam-a-Cove which seems like a very sensible option. He gets some of the extra height gain back going across to Hard Knott and he doesn't have to mess around on wet rock around Crinkle Crags.

oh FF, you have made me very happy - looking at the map I'd wondered if that was the way to do it, I'm not as daft as I thought

FB ‎Paul Tierney‎ to Fell Runners UK 47 mins · Myself, Charlie Day and Matthew Beresford went in search of the Dom today on his Winter Wainwrights attempt and trotted for a couple of hours with him. Suggested he accompany us down to Langdale to get out of the grim conditions for a bit but he was having none of it. He eventually decided very sensibly to pop down the band and get a bit of shelter in langdale. I think the 3 of us were in agreement he's as hard as nails. I've no doubt he is strong enough to get round. Just hope the weather gets a little kinder for him over the coming days. Not safe to be on your own in those conditions. 📸 Matt Beresford — at Great Langdale.
