MC - plodding is fine for a 23:59 round, or are you hoping for a faster time?

I know we've had this discussion before, but to get in 23:59 or under you have to do a little bit more than just a plod here and there :-)

But, currently (i.e. out of running practice, but not out of mountain/fell practice), I would be borderline to achieve that*. I want to build in a bit of cushion, and will probably aim to run to a 23hr schedule.

in that case I'd suggest you're best just getting out on the route so you can get your head round the whole scope of it, and getting used to the effort level needed to do sections to schedule

I think you're right.

I'm basing my assessment of my current ability on the distance / ascent / terrain I covered in 22hrs in the Marmot24 (on very little training indeed).

The Marmot24 was a different kettle of fish - much rougher terrain than most of the BGR (head height bracken anybody?) and constant complex navigation (which does slow you down), but the distance/ascent I covered showed me that a BGR is definitely achievable.

I'd avoid the Fellsman as prep for BG (or anything else). While it's tough undefoot there's not that much ascent and the need to to be enforced groups overnight is not representative of any other event (And I hated nto being able to go at the pace that suited me).
Hardmoors 30 is a fun start to the new year but the the weather (this year being on all fours on the cliff path, unable to move forwards and clinging to a fence to save being blown over the end!) is the only challenging thing about it. Good way to clear the hangover though :-)

I would avoid all events and just train like hell for 6 months.
