Just heard that Dave Barnes from Dallam has postponed his attempt (scheduled for tomorrow) until Saturday, 6.00pm start. Weather not looking good ...

Going to call mine at 9am tomorrow morning after another look at the weather. Dark Peak are reviewing theirs as well. Unfortunately I haven't got any wriggle room to defer later on Saturday.

It's off. The weather is just too bad to risk it.

Wise move to cancel. The weather is genuinely awful, it's forecast to remain awful, the Great North Swim may be cancelled, I'm quite glad I've ended up having to be in work today, and even if it clears up in the course of today, which doesn't look likely, it's going to be absolutely vile underfoot. It's not worth it The nights are drawing in already. If I went out in the car at the moment, I'd need to use headlights. |

Just saw your postponement. Wise and brave decision I reckon, it would have been absolutely terrible up on the high fells - it's your BGR and you have to do what's best for you. I know of at least 4 other attempts, status currently unknown. Unless things dramatically change and everyone postpones I'm still heading up tomorrow morning for a bit of support. I may spend a good part of the day lurking in various cafes and pubs

Dark Peak have pulled their attempts as well. Never known that to happen before but sometimes you just have to accept that its the right thing to do. Feel for all those like UB that have worked hard in preparation and psyched themselves up to go today but well done on having the awareness to make the right call. Hopefully they will find another suitable date soon and the mountain gods will allow them to succeed.

Said it before and I'll say it again....don't do leg 2 in the da....oh no, not that.....what I meant to say is that if you want decent weather, avoid June! Last few years I've seen plenty of decent weather attempts in May, middle to back end of July seems ok as well, but the weeks around the longest day have invariably been awful, with the odd exception.
