I had to give blood earlier this week before I could be booked in for a surgical procedure. When I rang to book in for the procedure I was asked if I was taking iron supplements or if I had diabetes. Are these standard questions or does this indicate something has been picked up from my test? Can any doctors in Fetch-land help with this, please?

Sorted - rang the unit and they confirmed these are bog standard questions that they ask in relation to the procedure I will be having. If anything untoward is picked up in blood tests I would have been contacted direct.

That sounds new - I've not been asked those questions before. As a borderline anaemic person (I have sometimes failed the Hb test) I take the odd iron supplement or two.

Thanks everyone.
@Oranj - they told me that iron supplements sometimes leave a coating internally which can cause an issue with test results for what I'm having done. They also asked me if I was on blood thinning tablets or Warfarin when I called back!

Got something to say?
