Mine's always high when I have it taken at the doctors as is my pulse. I do hate them and feel on the verge of a panic attack whenever I walk into the office. My old doctor had a machine in the waiting room and I used to take it myself and show him. It's the only time I've had normal readings.

My OH has ridiculously high blood pressure which has come on for no apparent reason. He's always been big and isn't a keen exerciser but with no other factors changing his BP went from normal a couple of years ago to stupidly high - like 225/130 - in fact one of the readingd had 139 as the lower number (diastolic?); if it had been one higher the GP would have sent him straight to hospital.

I think he has a touch of white coat syndrome but even an ambulatory 24 hour test came out as 170/110 or something. He's toying with the idea of seeing a cardiologist to see if there's anything underlying this. Meanwhile he's reluctantly started on ramipril - reluctantly because he hates the idea of taking drugs for the rest of his life.

i think i'd want it checked out, too, sk, just to set my mind at rest, especially with it being a sudden change.

mine's always been on the low side. the only time i ever got anywhere near 120/80 was full-term pregnant. so now it has gone up a bit as i've got older it's still nowhere near being 'high'. i like the feeling i have a little in reserve :) ;)

Meant also to add that mine is "textbook" 120/75 and always has been, whether I exercise or not.
