Ordered a new axel that will take the bike trailer and the instructions state "The thread pattern must match Hold them side by side and make sure they line up exactly." I take it this is not matching as their thread is longer than the existing? Will this work or should we wait for them to get back to us? We have emailed them and they have a good exchange policy if it's wrong. |

I would say not. The thread itself looks correct, but the machined/supported area of the axle is not long enough, you would potentially have the threaded area in a load-bearing location.

Are they both the same overall length?

The new one is longer, but the old one is within the measurements. The new one says 163-183 mm and the old one is within that.

Can anybody recommend a good value / good quality torque wrench (for bikes, obvs.)?

Assuming you want a small(ish) one then I don't think you can go too far wrong with the X-Tools model, accurate, reasonable quality and not too expensive. I think mine goes up to about 20nm which is plenty for most bike jobs, I have a girt big one for stuff like bottom bracket removal but it's for car work mainly.

I was looking at the Topeak and the Park tools. Park is a bit annoying as although the wrench is £80+ you don't get any bits, and the bit set (made in China!) includes 7 sockets I can't think of any use for, for £50 https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/tools/park-tool-sbs12-socket-bit-set/. The Topeak is a full set for about £120. tweekscycles.com Lexivon is now a third option, for about £80. |
