yes, seems to make sense. i tried the km thing and it's just alien. i will take with me my old casio - so that if i lose garmin reception at 30km at least i can push a lap button at every mile marker to keep on track. i'm so glad you guys are here, otherwise i would never have known that, run blindly into a wall no doubt. cheers

I wouldn't worry too much guys - at the end of the day you start when you cross the line and you run/walk/crawl for a long time until you've done 26.2 miles, or 42.2 km - whichever come first

I do auto lap every Km and but have it set to miles so that I understand what its telling me!
Whatever you go with, I always reckon it's good to know what your km splits should be though, in case the GPS gives out - mine did thru 30km-35km last year (tall buildings around the Ku'damm) - or you accidentally turn it off crossing the start line, as I did at the Reading Half this year...
Good thing about Ks is that you have less need of Garmin pacing: the markers come pretty quickly.

KMs rock!
I don't use autolap in marathons in case the Garmin goes bonkers. I hit the lap key manually when I see the board and that way I'm under no illusions about how far there is to go. Nothing more annoying than the Garmin flashing up that you've done 38K only to see the 38K board 200m in the distance!

KB - v v v good point. That happened to me at the grunty fen half a couple of weeks ago. I'd "finished" but still had 200 yards to do! So do you literally just push start when the gun goes off or do you set it up for 26.2 miles in advance?
