I only had 1 1/2 before my first marathon naturally I got tired and emotional before the end before FLM I had a whole 4 hours and got even MORE tired and emotional maybe I'll stay up all night and I'll be fine.

Basically it's a fantastic day what happens (unless you hit the wall !)

Sarah, don't worry about the carbo loading yet too much, it is too early. For those that don't want to eat mountains of pasta, I would recommend Carbo Lode.

OK - well that's a relief cos I feel like I've eaten for a small family today. When should I start it?

Also, what is Carbo Lode please? And where might I get some?

Start about Thurs and that will be fine. Generally any more than 3 days before is wasted as it is used before the race anyway. Carbo Lode is a powder form of doing exactly the same but made up into a flavoured drink rather than having to face mountains of pasta etc. Used by a lot of the elites and I prefer it, means you can eat what you want and still achieve full carbo loading. Most specialist running shops stock it.

Relax everyone, although it is good to be nervous as it shows that the race is important to you and thus you are well motivated.

No problem Sarah, it took me about 5 marathons to find out about Carbo Lode. I love pasta but it was always a bit of a hassle finding somewhere decent to eat good pasta the night before and feeling that you should be tucking it away in large quantities.

Good luck on Sunday, you certainly picked a great occasion for your first one.

I'm eating plenty of carbs not quite loading. However what would you define as 'load' and what is just eating carbs

That varies by body weight, there is a recommended intake per kg but that is a bit serious.
PB - the good thing about being a marathon runner is you can pretty much eat as much as you want and never worry about weight gain :-)
