Wow W that's a lot of sugar, how many hives have you got? Out of curiosity, have you ever tried not feeding them?

We've got six hives at the moment. We try only to when it's necessary i.e. when there is a risk of starvation without.

Hello Cheekys dad and welcome

I have had my hives come through the winter here as strong as anything, the only thing i have dome different this winter was to leave a super on and in July (January in the northern hemisphere) i put some sugar syrup in, and it seem to have worked a treat. One hive was bursting at the seams and have split it 3 ways so hope we have a bumper season.

Here in Andalucia the equivalent of the UK Winter is our Summer because it's too hot for most plants to flower. But we never feed our bees. We plant as much as we can for them and they have to work really hard to find what they need to keep them going, which they do. We very rarely lose a hive in the summer, and our honey isn't overly sweet either, which a lot of people here like.

Got something to say?
