Unfortunately we have had to cancel the event this Saturday due to non availability of run directors. Normal business will resume the following Saturday and hopefully a few more names added to the RD roster.

URGENT MESSAGE REGARDING CAR PARKING:

CARPARKING UPDATE - SITUATION CRITICAL

As you all know, our carparking situation has been an ongoing issue since the Prince's Club shut in November. After some initial teething problems things appeared to have settled down, no doubt helped by the dropoff in numbers due to Christmas

Unfortunately, the issue reared its ugly head again on Saturday and we need to address this immediatedly as a community. Put simply - if we do not use the parking in accordance with the wishes of the Rangers, THEY WILL REFUSE PERMISSION TO USE THE PARK AND BEDFONT PARKRUN WILL CLOSE.

This may seem like scaremongering, but the Ranger on duty last Saturday was very clear about how unhappy he was about the situation and threatened to issue a written warning. The main issues were

- parking on the verges by the entrance from the road

- parking in front of the skips in the overflow carpark

We have written to the head Ranger to address the situation, but we also need help for all our parkrunners.

So - once again I want to urge ALL Bedfont parkrunners to follow these few steps to ensure we do not endanger the event.

1) Try and use other methods of transport (bike etc), especially as the weather improves

2) Plan ahead and arrive early! I arrived at 8.40 last week and had time to drive to Bedfont Road carpark and jog back.

3) Use the Bedfont Road carpark. This is the easiest thing to do - the car park is 2 min drive from the Start and a 5-7 min jog from the Start. It is also easily the biggest carpark - if most people use this as their default carpark, it will pretty much resolve the issue.

4) If you arrive late and can't find parking at the start - DON'T chance your arm and park illegally. Drive to the Bedfont Road carpark. The worst thing that can happen then is you join the field at the back and get a slower time for a week - not exactly a disaster compared the event being shut down

Please heed this advice. The Bedfont team cannot force anyone to follow the advice on parking, but we need everyone to take responsibility for car parking to ensure the future viability of the event!

Cheers

Rory on behalf of the Bedfont Lakes Parkrun Team

The course male record holder of 16:07 at Bedfont was broken on Saturday - Jack Rowe set a new course record of 16:06 - Event 192 (9/2/13). Tim Haughian had held the previous course record for 22 months.

Great parkrun, like the new altered course, I assume its beccause of the building work, but good to miss out on going around the lake on the final lap, it always felt like a slog, like the new finish up the hill, then sprint over the top to the finish line on the field.

it's alive - the thread that is - thanks run free ;-)

Hi oddson, I believe the altered course is to do with the building work, not sure how long it will be in place for - will share your message with the Event Directors :-)

Hi oddson - message from one of the EDs

"the run route will revert to normal in the next week or two as the building works are nearly finished"

oh, and they love the fact that you think the bit round the lake is a "slog" but don't mind going up the hill for a 3rd time!!

Have to say always great support at the turn leaving the railway line, makes both the 2nd lap and the final slog a lot more bearable.
