Anybody had Bakers Cyst, I've been told by our company health day, physio, that I have a small Bakers Cyst at the back of my knee. Would this be the cause of my knee injuries and is there anything that can be done for it. Anyone else had this problenm?

I take it you read information from here;

en.wikipedia.org

Haven't had the problem, sorry but I've got a runners knee(well two I guess!) and neverhad any problems with that.
Have you seen a sports physio? Someone who perhaps is a knee specialist? I can perhaps give you theemail address of someone who might be able to help.

I have had one of these earlier this year....I had pain whenever I bent or knelt down..basically put pressure on it on the back of my knee, so it got painful..No problem when i ran, just sore afterwards, as the running motion caused it to inflame. I was concerned I had done something more sinister inside my knee joint!

Doc said rest (don't they always) and use Ibuprofen gel directly onto back of knee.....after 2 weeks or so, it seemed to go away.

Cause seemed to be me banging my knee at somepoint, and the knee producing too much fluid to protect itself, which then "popped" out of the back into a small sack/cyst, which just needs to drain back into the knee!

Hope it helps.

Hi, thanks for the replies, it was a sports physio in work that diagnosed it. I have had it for years, so might pop to the docs, sometime in the near future.

Its more likely that the cyst is a consequence of the knee problem, rather than the cause of it.

Once the injury settles down the cyst may resolve, sometimes they don't.

Mr I has one but as JohnnyO said it was as a consequence of other knee problems (a ganglion, some cartiledge thing and something else). He's having physio for all his knee issues but he's at the stage where the exercises are starting to work so it hurts. He's also on a course of ummm diclofenac.

My Dad had one years ago, it was a result of him having to squat down to work on lamp-posts when he was working as an electrician with the council! It eventually went away I think.

I've had one of these too. It just disappeared on it's own when I wasn't even thinking about it but I was on a break from running at the time so maybe could have helped. I have had no problems since starting running again :)

Got something to say?
