In Sept 2021 we got a letter saying they were seeing people referred in May ‘19 so were expecting a much longer wait. We’re not sure if it was her EHCP review that triggered the jump up the waiting list, or if the local authority (Greenwich) have just thrown some money at the problem to try get the waiting list down.

In the assessment she was asked if she thought she had it and replied that she did think she met some of the criteria. In reality we all knew she is autistic. Fortunately she’s been getting good support at school already (thanks to her EHCP) but this diagnosis will just add the extra evidence if anyone decides to reduce the level of support in the future. The other professionals that she sees (eg psychiatrist) have been treating her as if she’d had the diagnosis already but yes, so many children (and especially girls) are being let down by the system. Imagine if people were told there was a 2 year waiting list to discover if you had diabetes or some other long term condition. The chronic underfunding of CAMHS is failing our young people.
jelly (limegreenjelly) Feb 2022 12:36pm, 22 Feb 2022 2,364 posts	0 jelly (limegreenjelly) I’ve been waiting since 2019 or 2018 for my smallest (he has just turned 11) I really wanted things sorted before his transition to high school but I’m not getting very far! It’s not that I think he needs lots of help right now but he needs it to be recognised to help when he does need it! His teacher/sen is supportive but I feel a bit let down after all I’ve been through!

I had his teacher write an update last October and hoped we might hear back so I’m just gathering my strength to try to write a letter or email to try to move things again!
