Trouble is, the popular races sell out so quickly that if you want any chance of taking part, you have to enter IMMEDIATELY and then hope to god you make the start line. Then a high percentage of those people drop out for one reason or another (including CBA) and the places don't get released back. Take Southside Six for example - sold out in 11 minutes in February for a race that happens in November. You could get pregnant and give birth in that time! Never mind get injured, move house, change job shifts, stop running, etc, etc.
