I had a minor op last Wed to remove a cyst from my head and I thought it was healing nicely, pain has settled down to almost nothing unless i have my hair tugged or bash the sore area.
Anyway today i went to get my stiches out and the nurse says its not healed properly and bunged some steri strips over it and said come back in a week and DONT get it wet!
Hummm when i run i sweat?......a lot!
So my question is (although i have actually run a couple of times and had showers but that was when there was stiches in) can i still run now with the steri strips or will this stop the healing further?
I have a race on sunday and i really want to do it.

Thanks for reading this even if you are not a Dr and just like being nosey.....all sympathy welcome !

A week on, any remaining healing is going to have to take place from the bottom of the wound upwards and the steri-strips will just act as a sort of ineffectual dressing.

I'd say run, shower, be careful when combing and styling your hair if the wound is on the hairy part of your head, and when the steri-strips get loose and manky take them off. And see your GP if it starts to hurt or breaks down and oozes.

Thanks Vrap, and any idea how long it might take to heal, days? weeks ? months?

oh and it is within my hair and fairly deep by the sound of what the nurse said.

If it's quite deep it could take several weeks to heal completely, but the scalp has a very good blood supply (as you probably discovered at the time of the operation - I hate taking out scalp cysts, it's usually a bloodbath of a procedure) and it's rare for wounds there to become infected or to fail to heal provided you keep the area clean and handle it gently.

I had one taken off my face above my earlobe in my hairline a while back that took a while to heal before I discovered running...was fine in the end and didnt scar either :)

I just bathed or showered with a cap on.

I love Fetch.. you know that?

We have every conceivable profession on here and there is always someone who'll know.....like V-Rap / Hippo / BCRB / 2FF... or the rest of us, who'll make something up and sound terribly convincing.

Good luck on the healing powers... :)

(and what VRap said....and I would try and avoid getting it soaked/soapy - apart from anything else, it will probably sting like heck!)
