I have a 610 which has so far been more than adequate for my needs, however it looks as though I need to be able to add swimming to my cycling and running logs. Everyone tells me I need a 920xt which is currently £319 on Amazon. They also have a 310xt for £138. I honestly cannot see what the extra £180 gets me. Can anyone enlighten me?
Oh, and how do you know which prescription goggles to buy if you can't find a copy of your prescription?

Hi HellsBells,

I don't own a 310xt but vaguely recall Vrap saying how good hers is and how she'd consider replacing it with another 310 rather than the 920 if it broke.

Regarding the prescription for glasses, could you go back to the place where you last had an eye test and get them to print off a copy for you?

I feel a bit bad going and asking the optician and then not buying their expensive ones

When I got mine from Specsaver they could only give me 'off the peg' so the lens were a close fit to my prescription..... If I remember correctly the refraction in water makes a difference too (you can tell I'm a Biologist & not a Physicist ;) ).

Here's a comparison dcrainmaker.com
I've included the 910xt as well. I'm going to guess you want pool swimming to be tracked properly. The 910 & 920 will handle that with length counting, stroke counting and stroke recognition; all of the above seem to work better for some people than others, which is also true for the Suunto watches. The 310xt can't track indoor swimming because it doesn't contain an accelerometer.
Also, the 310xt is more likely to come off the strap if another swimmer kicks it than the newer watches are.

Other odds and sods; the newer watches have barometric altimeters which are more precise than GPS, and the 920 has Bluetooth and Wifi for uploading to Garmin Connect, which is probably more reliable than the ANT+ stick the older watches use. And if the wireless plays up, you can pull the files off the 920 using a USB cable, which isn't possible on the older watches.

Thanks Badger. I think I want both open water and pool swimming, so the 310 is looking less appealing. The 910 is still half the price of the 920 though :-)

A vote for the 920 here, which I've been using for a while.

thanks - I don't think I can justify the 920 - it'll probably be the 910, and probably not until Christmas :-)
