Jamie - your friend needs to use hydrocortisone twice daily for a week (a small amount) AT THE SAME TIME as a good Proper moisturising cream like E45 or one of the Diprobase type things at least twice a day for a long time. And try wearing long running bottoms or socks or something.

Ian is probably right about being tired. When it has happened to me, it's usually near the end of my run going up the bridge slope.

I'm fairly regular so I think my glutes get quite a lot of use! ;-) :-0

JingleBellChameleon, What Pesto says basically.
The fix to stop the kicking is the same too. Strengthen up the glutes.

James, glutes are notoriously under used in most folk. Certainly weaknesses will become more pronounced when tired. When doing as you describe it will put a bit more strain on the weak glute and make you do that. Also when tired you tend to not pick feet up as well.

Junglebell, I find that just getting plenty of running done really helps my eczema too. Keeping skin moisturised is also key especially in cold weather I find. DOn't neglect feet either because you can end up with cracks or splits on soles.

My 'friend' also used to do this whilst running. 'They' said it seems to happen less often since cycling as their arse ... sorry glute is now slightly larger .. sorry stronger! :-)
