A lot of people will end up with something like a Garmin Forerunner 110 - amazon.co.uk

If you look around the web you'll be able to find one for about £100 - it might not be 'budget' but compared to a new/replacement smartphone it's pretty cheap and will record routes more accurately, heart rate, easier to use, have more features etc... :)

What about mapmyrun?

mapmyrun.com

I have used it when I forgot my garmin at parkrun and got a really good measurement. You can buy some good sports bands to secure your phone to your arm as well.

amazon.co.uk

Not sure what phone you have but used the above as an example

Garmin do an even more basic one Forerunner 10, there is the Times GPS Marathon which I did see for £50.00 on Amazon a little while ago and then there is the Soleus GPS watches
