But it looks like there is an alternative path. So I'd strongly recommend doing that bit that I've highlighted with the purple arrows rather than that bit of road between the two red crosses. I'm not sure why they didn't put the official route that way.

I've finally booked something for September. I'll be based in Kirkby Lonsdale (without a car) I can see some walks nearby but if anyone has any routes in the Southern Dales they recommend do let me know.

There’s a pathway on the horror stretch of road just after Weecher res now McG Route highly recommended - very scenic and tougher alternative to Dales Way
