One way I've used in the past is to do remainder of long run as a warm down after racing on Sunday or even splitting warm up and warm down either side of a race to make up long run distance up to as far as 22 miles

Sounds like a good idea mate.
Im doing a club half on a Sunday im due to do a LSR, i wont be able to do the LSR any other day so ill do the extra after the race and run the race at the correct schedule pace. Sometimes you have to make allowances mate.
Which race you training for mate?

I've certainly done a race sandwiched between slower long warm ups and warm downs, to make up the total distance for the long run. I've not held back on the race though!

your suggestion of LSR fri race Sun sounds good homer. However, I wonder if part of the reason of race sat, LSR on sunday is that you are doing the LSR deliberatly on tierd legs?

I've done the same as mxhornet. One Sunday long run consisted of a 10k race followed by a mile jog back to the start and then took part in the half marathon as well. Nice way to fit in a 20 miler and a race effort :)

Hellen, I'd agree that's the prupose of the race then LSR but it's very difficult to find Saturday races and the schedule calls for 3 or 4 if I remember correctly.

Thats very true about the sat races but there is no reason why one couldnt do a hard Sat run instead folllowed by a 20 miler. Havnt done that myself but might try it some time

The plans look fairly flexible and I'm changing some runs and just making sure that an LT run isn't done too close to a 20M+ run. Agree the races look confusing as it says in the book to leave a few days between them and long runs and yet each one is day before a long run.

For me some will be hard MP runs instead of races and some will be All Out blasts in which case I'll probably move the tuesday run to saturday and do the long run on tuesday.

Doing lots of shuffling this week as xmas and also did a great progressive run today with 12M of the 18 at MP+10%. Will give myself two progressive only and swap tues general 10M with fridays 12M run but do neither as progressives and have Wednesday,thurs.sat.sun as planned.

Then am racing next wed so will do that instead of the week 9 LT run. Do feel a bit unfaithful to the plan as been following almost to the letter so far but just hoping a bit of tinkering makes v little difference come April.

The 18 week FLMers should be joining the thread on monday as well:)
