The book is good and the plans seem very structured.

I see there is a new edition of P&D out soon. Is it worth pre-ordering or are back editions just as good? (can't imagine the advice will be THAT much different).

I bought this book last week, I think its really good. I like the way they explain in "common terms" about each training session and how to improve on things. Im going to use some of the 24 week schedule (70 mile week) accompanied with stuff I used for Dublin Marathon in my training for Belfast 09.

brought forwards next tuesday's lt run to last night as fitted better with going down to club. Went really well, aim was 6;10-6;15 pace and managed 6;09 pace. todays 10mile general run was bit tough for 1st 5 miles though but then felt more comfortable just to give anyone else on 24/70 plan the heads up for next week

Just wondered how any of the 24week FLM runners were doing after 3 weeks.
I've actually found the Wednesday runs the hardest to get up to pace for although i have messed up by running 2 of them as progressive runs instead of general runs by mistake!
Sunday's 16miler progressive was great though. 6 miles at MP+9%. How are people fitting races into the schedule tho?

Marts: I agree, getting the Wednesday run right is the hardest part of the plan. I'm only doing the 18 week plan this time, starting Christmas week. Just doing base training until then.
As for fitting in races, the way I look at it is that it's a plan, not a schedule set in stone. Unless it's a priority race, just drop the interval or tempo session that week and run the race instead. Might mean rejigging the week a bit, but it's not that hard.
Fitting in priority races (like a target HM) into the schedule is bit trickier if they don't fit, but it can be done. Again, adjust the week, if you're tapering for a day or two then make it a recovery week - moving a recovery week one week forwards or back won't kill you.
As I see it, it's all a case of following the principles of the plan, not the plan itself, although the plan does have the very big advantage that it's all worked out for you.

Fair comment Matt, my Half races will be used excatly as you described. I'll be on the 18 week plan too and I'm sure I'll constantly be re jigging!
