Jacobi > good link that. Very interesting to see very few 20+ runs, although in the November a couple of 29 mile (3hr) training runs.
Lots of double days with 11 miles in AM and 12 PM.
It's kind of the approach I'm looking to take. Am gradually building my mileage and am running 70+ now with two double days. Am going to add a couple more double days next year and was looking to throw in some 25+ mile runs for my next marathon (likely to be London 2010)
I find double days very good for clocking up some miles without taking too much out of you. Since I've been doing these on a regular basis my endurance has definitely improved. One of my doubles days I'm doing 5 AM and 10 PM. 15 miles for the day but is much easier than a 15 mile run.
Might have a scan through that link in a bit more detail as have only looked at Nov/Dec

I agree on the double days being easier - I have built up to 5/5 and 7/5 for two days of the week. They feel a hell of a lot easier than running 10 or 13 miles in one go - it's also much easier on the legs and they feel fresher as a result.

definately, I don't even notice any effects of the morning 5 mile run now. The only problem is having to get up earlier Not as easy now it's cold/dark.

Have a look at week 25 Stephen, 178 miles for the week but none more than 15.5 miles. One run in temperature of 87 degrees!
Personally I find doubles quite hard and would rather do a 15 mile run than a 5 and a 10. I wonder if I am missing out on something here and "plod" a bit on the longer runs?

Does the P&D plan advocate weights? I've found that doing weights twice a week definitely helps my running, not sure how it would fit in with what they're trying to teach though. Have got the book on order now.

The schedules don't mention weights. Not sure if the text of the book does though?? It's been a year since I read it.

Velociraptor
The text mentions weights, and suggests that runners who are phobic about pumping iron can do hill-work instead

Core strengthening stuff is definitely useful and I did (and still do) that alongside normal training.
I avoid weights though and use a Swiss ball and some core exercises.

rubble, I think I am with you on that one, prefer 1 longer run than 2 shorter ones. With the doubles it means showering twice and getting two lots of gear sweaty!! Although sometimes the doubles are a better way of fitting in the milage
